Soul Progressin' CD

Pianist Lafayette Gilchrist is a member of the exciting New Jazz movement that’s been turning out funk, soul and acid jazz inspired artists for a couple decades, now. For Soul Progressin’—Lafayette’s fourth release—Hyena Records sent me a cache of great photos to work with and left the rest up to me. I built upon the provided images with textures from my own stock photo library to give the package the edge it required to hold up next to the solid grooves featured on this CD. I chose the cover image of Lafayette at the piano in front of a mirror because I felt it represents both sides of his playing: he can bring the heavy funk as well as the more straight-ahead stuff. If you’re into this kind of music, put this cat on your radar and enjoy the ride.
